Workforce Development Demonstration Project is sponsored by New York State. This funding supports programs that provide at-risk youth (aged 16-24) with alternatives to gang involvement through workforce and educational development. The programs aim to help youth obtain high school diplomas or equivalency, engage in post-secondary education, and offer occupational skills training in various trades.
The initiatives also target youth who are unemployed, involved in the justice system, aging out of foster care, or at risk of gang involvement. The goal is to curb gang-related violence by addressing the factors that lead youth to gang activity through education, occupational skills training, employment services, and leadership development.
Funds are awarded competitively to not-for-profit organizations, educational institutions, and government entities.
