On April 13, 2026, DOL announced the fourth round of its State Apprenticeship Expansion Formula (SAEF4) program: $85 million distributed to every state and territory by a performance-based formula that rewards recent apprenticeship growth and greater employer participation. For the first time, AI infrastructure is elevated to priority status alongside manufacturing, construction, nuclear energy, shipbuilding, domestic mineral production, and IT — funding Registered Apprenticeship programs that build, manage, and apply AI tools as part of a national push toward one million apprentices.
