Soroptimist International of Redding held their first Breast Cancer Awareness Luncheon in 1998, and money raised at the luncheon funded the Breast Cancer Detection Fund. The fund assisted hundreds of women and men in Shasta and Trinity Counties who could not afford necessary screening for breast cancer.

We are honored to now offer this program directly, allowing patients the freedom to choose where they receive their testing, while ensuring all funds remain local. Nor-Cal Breast Cancer Connection is now offering an online application process to directly provide financial assistance for diagnostic screening for breast cancer detection.

The Breast Cancer Detection Fund is an allocated funding source to assist anyone who is uninsured, underinsured, or for whom cost is a barrier to receiving necessary diagnostic testing. Screening can include initial mammogram, diagnostic mammogram or ultrasound, biopsy, MRI and other tests as determined by the medical provider to be necessary. Nor-Cal Breast Cancer Connection will allocate $10,000 per quarter for disbursement.

A patient can apply more than once, but only one time for each test (for example, we will not provide assistance for two MRIs). All tests will be reimbursed at our current approved rates . Funding Request Procedures: Step 1: Patient fills out and submits the request for funding.

All required documents must be submitted for approval. Step 2: Nor-Cal Breast Cancer Connection BCDF review committee will review applications monthly. Step 3: Payments will be provided to patients once a month.

Today, our work goes beyond awareness — we are building meaningful connections, providing education, and offering direct support through our Breast Cancer Detection Fund. That’s why we are proud to share that Nor-Cal Think Pink is becoming Nor-Cal Breast Cancer Connection . This new name reflects who we are today and the future we are building — one rooted in connection, support, and ensuring that no one has to face breast cancer alone.

While our name is changing, our mission — and our heart — remain exactly the same.
