Bridging Michigan Grant is a public humanities program grant from Michigan Humanities that provides Michigan nonprofits with up to $2,500 to support programming that sparks in-depth thinking and conversation around persistent community challenges. Funded projects should address social, economic, cultural, and racial inequities, using formats such as reflective conversations, reading series, film screenings with discussion, web projects, walking tours, public lectures, and exhibit creation. Successful applicants are notified within two weeks of application receipt, receive 100% of grant funds upon signing the grant agreement, and must submit a final report within 30 days of project completion. Eligible applicants are Michigan-based nonprofit organizations. Note: this program is currently closed pending the federal FY26 budget.
Great Michigan Read Action Grant is a grant from Michigan Humanities that funds community literacy events centered on a selected Michigan-themed book. Since 2007, the Great Michigan Read program has united communities statewide through fiction and nonfiction titles that spark conversation and educational programming. Grants of up to $750 support independent organizers affiliated with eligible partner organizations including libraries, schools, and nonprofits located in Michigan. All program events are free and open to the public. The 2025-26 program features Curtis Chin's "Everything I Learned, I Learned in a Chinese Restaurant."
Public Humanities Projects opens October 15, 2026 and closes December 9, with planning grants to $75,000 and implementation grants to $750,000.
